Chesterton Primary School was buzzing with excitement as pupils and staff came together to celebrate World Book Day with a fantastic day full of reading, creativity and community spirit.
From the moment the school gates opened, the playground was filled with an incredible array of characters as children arrived dressed as their favourite book heroes and villains. We saw everything from classic characters to modern favourites, and the effort that pupils (and families!) had put into their costumes was truly wonderful.
The day began with a whole-school assembly, where everyone gathered together to admire each other’s fantastic costumes. It was wonderful to see so many different characters in one place! During the assembly, members of staff also shared some of their favourite books with the children, explaining why those stories are special to them and encouraging pupils to discover new authors and adventures through reading.
Throughout the day, pupils took part in our popular Buddy Reading sessions. Older children partnered with younger pupils to share stories together, helping to inspire a love of reading across the school. It was lovely to see the Year 5 and 6 pupils supporting younger readers and bringing stories to life.
One of the highlights of the day was a special trip into Cirencester for pupils in Year 1 to Year 6, who walked together to our local Waterstones Cirencester to spend their World Book Day book vouchers. The children loved browsing the shelves and choosing their very own books to take home, making the celebration of reading even more special.
Our youngest learners in Preschool and Nursery also enjoyed a magical part of the day with a special story time led by Mrs Pringle. The children gathered together to listen to stories, share their favourite books and enjoy the magic of storytelling in a cosy, welcoming environment.
World Book Day is always a highlight in our school calendar, and this year was no exception. The day was a fantastic celebration of stories, imagination and the joy of reading. Thank you to our staff, families, the Friends team and our local Waterstones Cirencester for helping make the day so memorable.
